Clay to the east, rock to the west
East of Austin, around Manor, Del Valle and Pflugerville, it’s mostly deep prairie clay that drains slowly. West of town, toward Bee Cave and the lakes, the Hill Country soils are often thin over limestone. Neither is easy for a conventional drain field, which is why aerobic spray and drip systems are so common across the county.
City of Austin or Travis County?
Inside the City of Austin’s jurisdiction, including properties with frontage on Lake Austin and its tributaries, Austin Water runs the septic program. Outside it, Travis County’s On-Site Wastewater program is the TCEQ’s authorized agent. Austin Water’s online OSSF map shows which applies to your address, and whether you’re over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone or the Barton Springs segment, where extra care and rules apply.
Maintenance contracts here
Larry’s offers aerobic maintenance contracts in both the City of Austin and Travis County. Each visit inspects the components, tests what the rules require and gets the report filed on time.
